With no significant previous base of capital philanthropy, library users from diverse regional communities, and a recently defeated construction bond referendum, Crandall Public Library faced its $18.75 million renovation project with some serious obstacles to overcome.

In yet another twist, a bond referendum needed to be placed on the ballot and pass in each of the three municipalities that comprise its district (rather than a simple matter of winning more “yes” than “no” votes.)

In response, we shelved the traditional campaign feasibility study in favor of a rallying volunteer leaders - key stakeholders - who would comprise a Campaign Leadership Team. Together, we formed a multi-pronged strategy, which included a linchpin: the positioning of the project in as an econimic driver: “Strong Library = Strong Future. Renovating our Regional Treasure.” By widening the context for the project as a thriving economic asset in a rebounding region, we persevered. The bond referendum passed, the capital campaign raised the needed funds, and the renovation wrapped up in 18 months.
